Resting snake, basking on heated rock. Copperheads are poisonous but I was able to stand right over him to take this shot - without getting bit. Yes, I'm a wee bit of a daredevil.

Awesome shot and pretty snake! You got really close to him. But that actually isn't a copperhead. That's some sort of nonpoisonous snake. You can tell by the shape of the head. Poisonous snakes usually have triangular shaped heads and slanted eyes , while nonpoisonous snakes have rounder heads and round pupils . Also, copperheads have smoother scales and more defined markings. [link] That's a copperhead. I'm not sure what your snake is though. Again, really great shot!

I'd off hand say it's a Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon).

Copperheads are to hard to misidentify if you've ever even see a picture of one.

Take a look yourself :D.

That's definately NOT a Copperhead or any other venomous snake, but a harmless Northern Watersnake(Nerodia sipedon). I'm going to post some Copperhead pics later on this evening, of the Real Deal, so you can see the differences. Both are pretty species, but they really don't look much alike.
